Carmel Thornton

Case Manager, LL.B (Hons), GCILEx

Carmel joined Johnson & Gaunt in 2012, became a Graduate Member of The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) in March 2015 and has recently become the Public Law Case Manager for James Walthall, one of our Directors. She is currently registered on a work based learning program through CILEx and aims to become a Chartered Legal Executive, having already achieved a law degree with honours from Nottingham Trent University.

In her current role, Carmel's duties include the following:-

  • Managing the day to day running of James’ files;
  • Working closely with the clients throughout their proceedings;
  • Attending Pre-proceeding’s meetings;
  • Liaising with Local Authority’s, Counsel and other professionals;
  • Attending hearings;
  • Preparing statements and other legal documents.

Carmel hopes to complete her Family Proceedings Certificate which will give her rights of audience in a variety of courts and also hopes become a member of the Law Society Children’s Panel one day.

Carmel enjoys working as part of the Child Care team and working for the firm as a whole. She has good relationships with many of the professionals in the care field and enjoy working with them on our cases.
