As an employer, are you prepared for Christmas?
Do you know your employees’ rights when it comes to working over the Christmas period?
Christmas is a time of celebration for many and employers can help the festivities by planning ahead for the flurry of holiday requests and by managing absences. It is also a season that has a big impact and when there is likely to be extra demand for products, services and sales and other business may experience a quiet period or a shutdown.
Many employees will request time off to spend with their family or go on holiday, whilst others will be required to work over the Christmas period and may experience different working patterns. Christmas Day and Boxing Day are bank holidays in the UK but there is no legal right to paid leave for these. The right to paid time off for public holidays depends upon the terms of the employment contract and can be counted as part of statutory annual leave.
So remember, flexibility is key for both employers and employees at this time of year!
